In an email to friends and supporters, soon-to-be-ex Los Angeles Times columnist Robert Scheer blames Publisher Jeffrey M. Johnson for his ouster from the op-ed page:
On Friday I was fired as a columnist by the publisher of the Los Angeles Times, where I have worked for thirty years. The publisher Jeff Johnson, who has offered not a word of explanation to me, has privately told people that he hated every word that I wrote. I assume that mostly refers to my exposing the lies used by President Bush to justify the invasion of Iraq. Fortunately sixty percent of Americans now get the point but only after tens of thousand of Americans and Iraqis have been killed and maimed as the carnage spirals out of control. My only regret is that my pen was not sharper and my words tougher.

Dear Robert Scheer,
My condol-ulations. Unlike your publisher, I've loved every word you've ever written (I may have missed a few) since With Enough Shovels. Apparently you're good enough and important enough to fire without cause--the highest accolade the mainsteam media can bestow these days.
If you really want to sharpen your pen into a silver bullet and send it spiraling into Cheney's black and slimy heart, causing enough oil to spurt out to meet the planet's energy needs for at least two or three centuries (while warding off the psychotic "nuke Iran" plan) please consider the 9/11 truth beat. To say there's an opening there would be a gargantuan understatement. If someone of your caliber and integrity were to do a 9/11 truth series, and publish it wherever...well, there's no telling how big that story could get.

and scroll down to Monday, 10/24/2005. Griffin says he's now optimistic that the truth will out, since he's been contacted by very high level people from two of the nation's top news organizations, who are apparently contemplating breaking the story at some unspecified future date.
Since you're unemployed now, with no (expletive deleted) publisher hanging over your head, why not break the story for them? With Enough Shovels helped keep the planet from going up in flames. Are you ready for an encore?
