Even after the attacks of 9/11 on America, many theorists gave their conspiracy theories shortly after the attacks. Some of the stories brought up facts and arguments but some of the theories couldn’t hold up at all. Some of the theorists believed that the destruction of World Trade Centre buildings was done by bombs. The phone calls from the planes were made up and that the government had a hand in the attacks. In this blog, we are going to give some of the most compelling conspiracy theories after the attacks of 9/11.
NORAD was founded in 1957. During the attack of 9/11, Vice President Dick Cheney was in command of NORAD. The Generals and the Commanding Officers of NORAD always had the power to shoot down or escort any hijacked plane in the American airspace. It was the first time in American history that a Vice President was commanding the NORAD.
Three months before the attacks, the Vice President ordered the removal of the power to shoot down hijacked planes from the Commanding Officers. Moreover, it was believed that CIA held an exercise similar to the plan of the attacks on the morning of attacks. Many theories state that it’s not just a mere coincidence that CIA was holding the same exercise as the attacks even when there were reports. NORAD also held same exercises two years before the 9/11 attack.
In those exercises, one of the targets was World Trade Centre. The conspiracy theorists believe that there was a link between the exercises and the real attacks. The question remains that why didn’t NORAD put down the planes that were hijacked when it was possible.
Planes Didn’t Make Twin Towers Collapse
Another famous conspiracy theory said that the World Trade Centre collapse appeared to be controlled demolition. Many believed that the towers, in fact, were blown by explosives that were placed in the building. People who survived the attack and were inside the building said that they heard explosions even before the planes hit the towers. It may be possible that bombs could have been placed at some crucial locations in the building.
Many scientists believe that aeroplane fuel cannot produce enough heat to melt the steel structure of the two buildings that collapsed. Commercial planes are made from aluminium, which is lighter than steel. In no way can an aeroplane collapse a building made of steel. The theories put these kinds of questions in the forefront.
Hijackers Are Alive
Many people believe that the attacks were planned. There are theories that say that hijackers are still alive in other countries. These theories did make a good point. In the aftermath of the attacks, passports of the terrorists were found during the search and rescue mission. Now the question arises: how did the identification passports, which are made out of paper, survive the same explosion that destroyed buildings, and how were they were found in such rubble?
Black boxes are the most important part of an aeroplane. Black Boxes are the devices that record each and everything that happens in the cockpit of the planes if there is an accident with the plane. But in the case of the 9/11 attacks, the black boxes were one of the most important parts of the investigation and were the only evidence that would have proved what happened inside the cockpit of the planes. 3 out of 4 black boxes were found. Only 1 was in good enough condition to listen to. The tapes of the boxes were shared with the families of victims in 2002. Many theories say that this was done to cover up a secret scheme.
The Tapes of Bin Laden Are Fake
Initially, Osama Bin Laden of Al-Qaeda refuted any involvement with the attacks, but after that many tapes came out claiming that he changed his mind and had taken full responsibility. Many people believe that Bin Laden was targeted because of his stakes in the stock market. It is also believed that it was done to cover up personal business ventures of then President George W Bush in the Middle East.
Even after such a long time after the attacks, no one will ever know the whole story, but we will always remember the people we lost on that tragic day.
